Barbara Talamo -Watercolors

Islesboro, Maine & Weston, Massachusetts

I first began watercolor painting after retiring from a biomedical research career as Professor and Chairman of Neuroscience at Tufts Medical School in Boston, MA. With no prior experience in drawing or painting I began experimenting by teaching myself from the book “Drawing with the Right Side of the Brain”, by Betty Edwards. Finding great enjoyment in watercolor painting, I pursued this by taking intermittent group lessons with artists from the New England Watercolor Society, especially Andrew Kusmin, and working with Islesboro artist Lauren Runnion-Baresford. The thrill of seeing the world with new eyes and painting scenes from travels on land and water, and of gardens and landscapes and as well as everyday objects is interpreted on the fly and relived back in my studio. Living on the beautiful island of Islesboro and sailing the waters of down east Maine gives an abundance of subject matter.
